Running preliminary and final cost calculation
Use the month-end workspace to review and execute calculations. Selecting a month or generating a cost report does not complete cost calculation. Earlier periods and other operations may need processing first.
Before you start
Review the period’s purchase, sales and warehouse documents and the expense-allocation inputs. Keep the current quantity and cost reports for comparison. Check the affected companies and historical documents before starting an operation that reposts financial records.
Select the period and mode
- Open Profitability & cost > Month-end closing. The form is titled Month-end procedures.
- Select Month and Mode: Preliminary closing or Final closing.
- For preliminary closing, check by date within the selected period. Use the intended calculation date.
- Review the diagnostics and any Recalculation required period. The required starting period can be earlier than the month selected in the header.
Resolve dependencies before calculation
Open the available Details links and review each required operation. Check missing or changed source documents and preceding periods. Cost calculation can depend on earlier cost periods and unfinished customer/vendor AR/AP calculations.
Do not assume that selecting a later month skips those dependencies. If historical reposting is required, review its scope and source data with the person responsible for accounting before execution.
The workspace provides the following operation groups and commands. The list depends on the selected mode and required work:
| Group | Operation | Command |
|---|---|---|
| Additional document posting | Calculate document amounts in accounting currencies and repost in financial registers | Run |
| AR/AP accounting and currency revaluation | Calculation of exchange differences for customer and vendor AR/AP | Run |
| AR/AP accounting and currency revaluation | Revaluate cash and financial instruments | Run, Details; final closing |
| Cost calculation | Cost allocation and cost calculation | Calculate |
| Profitability & cost generation | Generate VAT records | Generate |
| Profitability & cost generation | Generate expense allocation documents | Register, Details; final closing |
| Balance sheet statement | Record balance sheet statement entries | Run; where required in preliminary closing |
Run and check the required operations
- After resolving prerequisites, use the command for the intended operation or Run procedures for the reviewed scope.
- Wait for the operation status to finish updating. Inspect errors and Details where offered; starting an operation is not confirmation of completion.
- Review any remaining dependencies or recalculation requirements before proceeding to later operations.
- Open Cost calculation recorders in Profitability & cost and inspect the records relevant to the period.
Reconcile the result
Generate the quantity and inventory-cost reports again with the same period, company scope, units and currency basis. Compare receipt, issue and closing costs and any allocated expenses.
A blank issue cost is not a confirmed zero. If values still do not reconcile, inspect the source documents, operation results and allocation inputs. Do not treat month-end execution as proof that every valuation issue has been fixed, or substitute a proportional cost for a missing calculated value.
