Configure item types, attributes, names and duplicate checks

Procedure

  1. Open Master data and settings, then the item-type catalog under Item related catalogs and create or select the kind. Set its item category and accounting dimensions deliberately.
  2. In the additional-attribute settings, add a property for the kind or reuse a common property; choose its value type/list. Keep descriptive attributes separate from quantitative stock dimensions.
  3. In the naming-template settings, edit the working/print-name formula, preview the result and use the formula-check command. Choose whether users may edit the generated name.
  4. In the item-creation visibility, required-field and uniqueness settings, set visible, editable and required attributes; specify the attribute combination used to detect a duplicate.
  5. In the default-value settings, set approved defaults. In the property-filter settings, choose useful search attributes and order.
  6. Create a sample item of this kind, verify defaults and required-field behavior, then test a duplicate under a normal user. Distinguish an advisory combination warning from any strict duplicate-name prohibition.
