Configure warehouse bins, zones and putaway rules
Obtain the physical warehouse layout, supported bin mode, package dimensions and responsibility for rule changes. Global warehouse management is only one prerequisite.
Start at Open the specific warehouse card and its storage/bin settings.
Procedure
- Open the specific warehouse and inspect order scheme, rooms and bin mode. Distinguish informational bin placement from address-managed storage with tasks.
- Create/review the storage topology: storage areas, racks/sections and bins. Give each bin an unambiguous physical address and suitable capacity/accessibility data.
- Assign receiving and shipping zones separately from storage bins. Define work areas used to distribute warehouse tasks to workers.
- Configure storage areas for the intended item/storage groups and package types. Review zone priorities and whether mixing items, batches or designations is permitted.
- Set putaway rules for candidate bins, capacities and package types. For dedicated goods review the configured requirement for separate bins/zones by designation.
- Run a small putaway task from a known receiving zone. Review the proposed bin and rejection/capacity reasons before enabling wider automatic assignment.
- Test a retrieval and a count for the same bin. Keep rule changes traceable and resolve stock already stored contrary to the new segregation rules.
Check the result
A known item/package is placed into an allowed bin and can be found, counted and retrieved without ambiguous addresses.
If the result differs
No bin is proposed: inspect capacity, package rules, storage group and bin locks. Stock mixes assignments: review segregation rules and relocate existing stock through tasks.
